Halloween Themed Short Story Contest With Prize

October 13, 2020 0 Comments

It’s time again for another contest. Dust off those pens and notebooks. If you’ve been wanting to shake the rust off your writing and just haven’t, now is your chance.

Below, there will be four prompts. Pick the one you like the best and let your imagination run wild. The rules will be below as well.

The prize will be a choice of a handmade bookmark, your choice of cardstock watercolor design, hand-beaded, or crocheted OR an interview-style guest post on the blog. You’ll get to share any published works, any writing you’ve done, anything you want relating to writing.

Choose One of the Following Prompts:

  1. Your wife wakes you up in the middle of the night to feed your baby, who is screaming in the next room. You start to get up but then remember that you don’t have any children.
  2. Your grandmother dies and leaves you a treasure trove of family photos. While flipping through the albums one night, you come across a picture of her when she was about your age, standing in front of an old car with a group of her friends. Your girlfriend is one of them.
  3. You wake up from a nap and reach for your cell phone to find that you’ve been tagged in a Facebook photo. It’s a picture of you while were asleep in your living room chair a few minutes ago, and you live alone.
  4. You’re cleaning out your grandmother’s garage after she dies when you come across an old tape recorder with a cassette inside. You plug in the machine and are surprised that it works, but you’re astounded to hear your grandmother talking to your grandfather about the current president. Your grandfather died 30 years ago.

The Rules:

  • 1,000 – 2,000 words, 12 pt., double spaced, word document
  • Even though the theme is Halloween, feel free to write your story in any genre’. It doesn’t have to be horror themed.
  • Deadline for submission is Friday, October 23, 2020, midnight, EST

I hope you’ll all enter. It is free and you get a chance to hone your writing skills. You also get a cute little prize.
