Hello Wordsmiths,
It’s time for another short story contest with a fabulous prize. You know, those SUPER EXPENSIVE gifts I send the winner are quite coveted by all (ahem, cough). So, I’m going to need you to get your thinking caps dusted off and ready to go, because I need a lot of entries this time. After all, this is what this group is all about, ways to improve your writing. Writing short stories is a great way to hone your novel writing skills. Give it a try. You may be surprised how your writing improves.
Here we go!
The rules are as follows:
- Pick a prompt from the ones listed below.
- Write a short story that is between 1,000 – 2,500 words in 12 pt. Times New Roman or Arial font.
- Pay special attention to grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. I am going to put all entries into Grammarly Premium and Hemingway. If there are more than 5 mistakes, I won’t consider your story. I’m sorry if it sounds mean, but if one is to make it as a professional writer, this is one of the most important things to consider. There isn’t a publisher in the world that would accept a poorly written story full of errors. PLEASE PUT YOUR STORY INTO AN ONLINE (GOOD) EDITOR, AND READ IT OUT LOUD TO SOMEONE. You’ll catch the mistakes.
- All entries must be submitted by 10/18/21, midnight, EST.
- Write the name and number of the prompt you choose at the top of your story above the title.
- Submit story to writeon22@yahoo.com
- The prize will be your choice of either a leaf bookmark or a bookworm bookmark handmade by me. I know, priceless!!!!! Pictures of the prizes are the main pictures of this post.
Here are the prompts. Please choose one and let your creativity go wild!
- The old house was in disrepair. No one had lived there for years. But when the day came ot tear down the walls, she found the small door under the stairs.
- I ran away when I was three-years-old. I’m dead now, but I can tell you the story of how it happened if you’d like.
- Write a story where the main character slowly falls in love with the reader. (remember, this is a scary story contest. If you choose this one, make it scary)
Alright, that’s about it. Have fun. If you need any help or have any questions about this contest, please ask me. Happy Writing! Gina
