Three questions to answer:
Take your time and sit with pen and paper and really think about these questions. Answer as detailed as possible.
- Do I have enough of a compelling idea to carry through an entire novel? ~ if you love your idea but answered no to this question or aren’t sure, don’t give up yet. You may just have to build strong characters and put a little more thought into the story. An idea you can remain passionate about and expand upon is a huge first step.
- Who is your reader? Children? Young adult? Adults? This is important to know before you craft your character and begin to write. I’m not a children’s book author, so this blog is more geared toward adults and young adults.
- What’s your story’s theme? ~Romance, ~Action, ~Fantasy, ~Horror? It will decide the mood of your writing, thereby influencing the words you use and the characters you choose.
- Additional questions to ask before you begin: Who is your protagonist? Who are they at the beginning? How do they change by the end? Who or what will be their antagonist? What is it they want? Who or what gets in their way?
Helpful Hint: Read some book descriptions of books in your genre of choice. That will give you some idea of what needs to transpire throughout your book.
Don’t worry about an outline just yet. Make sure you can answer the above questions before you move on.

**Enjoy the ride. I find all of the pre-novel writing prep work just as exciting as writing the actual novel. The more thought you put into the prep work, the smoother the actual writing will go. It’ll help prevent stalling out in the middle, not knowing where to go next.
**If you feel you need additional help with any of these tasks, click on the Contact page and reach out to me about Life Coaching for your novel. I can schedule one on one time to personally guide you through the novel writing process.
Happy writing! And remember, The Time is Write!
